  A special dedication to our

Peer to Peer Reading Program

  A special dedication to our

Peer to Peer Reading Program

Thank you Peer Readers!

WWKIDS would like to thank you for participating in our Peer to Peer Reading Mondays (in-person) and Wednesdays (virtual) afternoon sessions.

Our wonderful board member, Neda Navab birth this program which started in February 2022, virtual with two high school readers from NYC and two  students from Gideon Education Center, Portland, Jamaica.
We have increased to seven readers from Kingston, Jamaica and New York City, USA. We now have an in-person session since September 2022. Our youth students are from four prep and primary schools, an inner city youth community center, across four parishes, and almost 40 children.
We believed that our readers are helping to spark a love for reading in the students, and students received the stories delightfully.
WWKIDS is so grateful for the patience of all participants, which saw quite a number of delayed starts and disruptions due to the unstable internet connectivity in Jamaica.

Dr. Keisha Siriboe is a Baltimore-based early childhood literacy consultant with a Ph.D. in early childhood education. She has researched education strategies and student leadership development all over the world and says reading aloud can help people with stress management, hope and resilience.

Reading aloud is the best bang for your buck, Siriboe says, adding that she hasn't seen anything yet that gives a higher return on investment.

The emotional benefits of reading aloud

Reading with your child is a practice that creates space for deeper independent learning and exploring. It doesn't matter if it's a traditional book, graphic novel, non-fiction or historical fiction, it all counts. What matters most is taking the time to dive deeper.

The month of May was celebrated as child's month. We kicked off our annual Read Across Jamaica week reading local author books. It was a resounding success once again! Our reading train saw us making stops at 12 schools in the parishes of Kingston, Portland, St. Andrew, St. Elizabeth and Trelawny.  We were joined by our kind partners AC Hotel by Marriott and Mayberry Investments Limited, author Kerry-Ann Willis and volunteers from Kingston College high schoool for boys.

WWKIDS marketing stragetist, Kristen Reynolds says " Watering the roots matter, because it is by way of receiving nourishment, that plants grow to bear fruit"

WWKIDS thanks their donors, partners, and volunteers for the success of this initative!

READING IS FUNDAMENTAL!

Winsome Wishes for KIDS, has gifted to all children in Jamaica, since August 2021, a FREE download of the GRAPHOGAME APP (American English version). NO CONNECTIVITY NEEDED to play this relevant early childhood game! Children learn best through play! Learn to READ while playing. It's a WIN-WIN!

Please view the video below which features the first child in Jamaica to play the Graphogame App. Aundrae B., a twelve year old student of Gideon Educational Centre in Portland, shows him progressing after 15 months of playing the Graphogame App.

Guyana was inspired by the launch of the Graphogame App in Jamaica, and they recently launched the same in March 2022,  Read more here.

The Graphogame App supports literacy and dyslexia interventions by helping to identify where students may require further support.
